Why Bank DA Looks So Low Next to Government DA

Special Allowance

This is the largest addition after basic pay. Under the 12th Bipartite Settlement, the special allowance for clerical staff is commonly reported at 26.5% of basic pay. Because DA is also paid on this amount, it raises the salary twice over.

House Rent Allowance

HRA is a percentage of basic pay and depends on where the branch is located. It is about 10.25% in major cities and lower in smaller centres. Employees living in bank-leased accommodation don’t receive HRA separately.

Transport and Other Allowances

Clerks also receive a transport allowance. Depending on the posting, other components can apply, such as special pay for certain duties. The bigger jumps come from promotion. Clerks can move into the officer cadre (JMGS-I) through SBI’s internal selection process. Entry-level officer pay starts at ₹48,480 basic under the current settlement, which is a significant step up.

The pay structure itself will also change. The 12th Bipartite Settlement runs until 31 October 2027, so negotiations for the next settlement, which will revise pay for all public sector bank clerks, are due to start soon.
